American Repertory Theater

The American Repertory Theater stands on the Harvard campus in Cambridge, Massachusetts. It occupies the Loeb Drama Center, a building shared with the Harvard-Radcliffe Dramatic Club. Founded in 1980 by Robert Brustein, the company focuses on new American plays and fresh interpretations of classical works. Over four decades it has won major awards including a Pulitzer Prize and multiple Tonys. The theater also runs the Institute for Advanced Theater Training at Harvard. The A.R.T. has premiered more than half of its 250 productions, staging work in twenty-one American cities and sixteen countries. Productions such as Sleep No More and The Donkey Show have redefined theatrical experience. The theater’s record includes eighteen Tony Awards and several Pulitzer Prize nominations. Each season offers a mix of new musicals, adaptations, and classics. Recent seasons have featured Gatsby: An American Myth, Six, and Romeo and Juliet. The theatre’s programme also includes graduate training for emerging artists.
