Tividale Tirupathy Balaji Temple

The Shri Venkateswara (Balaji) Temple stands on a 12-hectare site in Tividale, a suburb of Birmingham. It is a Hindu temple dedicated to Venkateswara, a form of Vishnu, built in the Vaishnava tradition. The temple was modelled on the Tirupati Venkateswara Temple in Andhra Pradesh, India. Construction began in 1997 after a site was donated in 1987. It opened in 2000 and was consecrated in 2006. The temple covers the largest land area of any temple in Europe. Its main deity is Venkateswara, and two smaller temples flank the outdoor stairway to the gopuram. These house Vinayaka (Ganesha) and Murugan (Kartikeya). Other shrines include Navagraha, Shiva, Hanuman and Lakshmi. The grounds also feature the Gandhi Peace Centre, which offers yoga and meditation classes, a library and an exhibition on Mahatma Gandhi’s life and philosophy. Visitors find a spacious temple complex with a grand gopuram and multiple shrines. The Gandhi Peace Centre provides educational resources and cultural programmes. The temple hosts festivals for South Indian groups and broader Indian celebrations such as Deepavali. Both Vaishnavite and Shaivite priests serve the temple, reflecting its inclusive traditions.
