Parish church Leithaprodersdorf

The Roman Catholic parish church of Leithaprodersdorf stands in the centre of the village in Burgenland. It is dedicated to Saint Mary Magdalene and belongs to the Eisenstadt-Rust deanery in the Diocese of Eisenstadt. The building has been protected as a monument since the 17th century. The church was rebuilt after a fire in 1683 and restored in 1823 and 1937. A major renovation began in 1972 and uncovered the tower’s baroque painting from 1823 and 1937. The four-storey tower has an octagonal stone pyramid roof and inscriptions from the two restorations. South of the nave is an open chapel with a curved gable, a large crucifix and small statues of Roch and Sebastian. Inside, the four-bay nave has a barrel vault with short lunettes. The 1780 gallery rests on two wooden columns with a scrolled balustrade. The high altar, altered in the 19th century, carries a painting of Saint Magdalene dated 1807 by Franz Maurer. Side figures represent Francis of Assisi and Francis Xavier. A side-altar niche holds a mid-19th-century oil painting of the Crucifixion. Figures of Leonhard and Florian flank the apse wall, and there are statues of Sebastian and John Nepomuk. The organ, built in 2017 with sixteen stops, was made by Pieringer Orgelbau.
