Städtisches Museum Waiblingen

The House of City History stands in a half-timbered building on the edge of Waiblingen’s old town. The house occupies the oldest surviving secular building in the town, erected between 1549 and 1553. Its edge-of-town position saved it from the great fire of 1634. After 1720 the building was mainly used by wine-growers. The city bought the house in 1983 and restored it to award-winning standards, winning the Europa Nostra prize in 1992. Inside, the museum tells the story of Waiblingen from its medieval roots to the present day. The ground floor rooms show everyday life in the Gerber suburb where tanners once worked. Upstairs, displays trace the town’s growth through trade, crafts and local events across the centuries. The Heimatverein’s office is also housed here, linking past and present. Visitors walk through rooms that still show original beams and windows from the 16th century. The museum’s exhibits include tools, documents and photographs that bring Waiblingen’s past to life. Outside, the half-timbered façade and cobbled lane recall the town’s craft heritage. The building itself is a quiet reminder of how a place keeps its memory alive.
