Tyne South Pier light

Tyne South Pier light stands on the South Pier at the mouth of the River Tyne, where the river meets the North Sea. It guards the entrance to the port of South Shields, a coastal town in Tyne and Wear. The pier itself stretches out into the water, built to keep the channel clear of silt and protect ships. Two massive piers, North and South, mark the river’s mouth, best seen from Lawe Top above the town.
