The Grange Club

The Grange Club stands in Edinburgh’s Stockbridge district, beside the Edinburgh Academy sports ground at Raeburn Place. Founded in 1832, it moved to its present site in 1872 and has occupied the same pavilion since 1893. The pavilion was restored in 1998 after costing £450,000. Its Long Room copies the design of Lord’s in London. The club also once governed Scottish cricket after the Scottish Cricket Union disbanded in 1883. The ground has hosted Scotland’s home matches and international teams such as Australia, Pakistan and England. W. G. Grace, Donald Bradman, Brian Lara, Shane Warne and Andrew Flintoff have all played there. It staged Scotland’s first official One Day International outside a World Cup in 2006. The ground has seen fourteen ODI centuries and four five-wicket hauls. It also hosted two ODIs during the 1999 Cricket World Cup. Visitors find the pavilion with its decorated interior and the Long Room. Five squash courts serve men’s and ladies’ teams. The Dyvours Club uses four grass courts and four floodlit astroturf courts. Grange Hockey Club fields eight men’s teams and four ladies’ teams, with junior sections across all sports. The grounds sit next to Raeburn Place, linking cricket to Edinburgh’s sporting past.
