The Tannberg is a 786-metre hill on the border between Salzburg and Upper Austria. It rises east of Lake Mattsee and stretches as far as Straßwalchen. On its Upper Austrian side lies the village of Lochen am See, while the Salzburg side includes Schleedorf and Köstendorf.

The hill belongs to the Flysch zone of the Northern Alps, though it sits just north of the recognised Alpine boundary. It therefore forms part of the Alpine foreland, surrounded by the Salzburger Seengebiet to the west and the Mattigtal to the north and east. During the last ice age the Salzach and Traun glaciers met here, carving out the lakes of the Salzburger Seenplatte and Salzkammergut. The summit offers wide views across the Salzburger Seengebiet and into the Northern Limestone Alps.

A small inn stands near the top, reached by a side road from Köstendorf. From there the skyline extends from the Traunstein through the Schafberg, Dachstein, Tennen and Hagen ranges, the Untersberg, Staufen and Zwiesel.
