Longmorn distillery
Longmorn distillery stands in the village of Longmorn in Moray, within the Strathspey whisky-producing area of Scotland. It is a single malt Scotch whisky distillery founded in 1893 by John Duff, Charles Shirres and George Thomson. Duff had previously managed Glendronach and Bon Accord distilleries and helped establish Glenlossie. The distillery began production in December 1894. John Duff also built the nearby Benriach Distillery three years later. Both distilleries suffered when Pattisons Limited collapsed in 1899, leaving Duff financially ruined. The distillery has changed ownership several times since then. In 1970 it joined The Glenlivet and Glen Grant to form The Glenlivet Distillers Ltd. Chivas Brothers bought the company in 1978. In 2001, Chivas Brothers was acquired by the French Pernod Ricard Group. The Longmorn 16-year expression has won international recognition. It received silver medals at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition in 2008 and 2009. Wine Enthusiast rated it 90 to 95 points in 2009. Visitors find a working distillery with traditional equipment and modern facilities. The site includes still houses, mash houses and warehouses for maturing whisky. The surrounding Strathspey landscape provides a scenic backdrop of rolling hills and forests. The distillery’s atmosphere reflects its long history and craftsmanship. Tours explain the whisky-making process from malting to bottling. The tasting room offers samples of Longmorn’s single malts.
