Flint Town United F.C.

Flint Town United F.C. is a football club in Flint, Flintshire, Wales. The team plays at Cae-y-Castell, also called the Essity Stadium, beside the Dee Estuary. Flint’s first club was founded in 1886 and reached the Welsh Amateur Cup final in 1890–91. The goalkeeper Arthur Bartley died from injuries in 1891, the first known fatality in modern Welsh football. The club won the North Wales Coast League in 1893–94 and later merged with Flint UAC in 1905 to become Flint Town. In 1925 the side reached the Welsh Cup final under Captain Emlyn Jones, losing to Wrexham. The present club was formed in 1946 by uniting Flint Town and Flint Athletic. Billy Russell’s team won the Welsh Senior Cup in 1954, beating Cardiff City in the semi-final before defeating Chester City in the final. The club became founder members of the League of Wales in 1993 and moved to the current ground on the estuary. In 1990–91 Flint Town United won the Cymru Alliance title and the North Wales Challenge Cup, then reached the League of Wales in 1993. Visitors find a modern stadium beside the Dee Estuary with views across the water. The pitch sits close to the town centre and the castle ruins. On match days the ground holds a modest crowd and the atmosphere is friendly and local. The club shop sells scarves and memorabilia near the turnstiles. After the game fans often walk along the estuary path towards Flint Castle. The ground is easy to reach from the A548 and has a small car park beside the stand.
