Burgstall Schlößlesbühl

Burg Schlößlesbühl stands on a narrow ridge 680 metres above sea level, where two small streams rise. The spur juts north-east from the main hillside and is about 170 square metres in size. At its tip rises a low mound fifteen metres across, once topped by a wooden or stone tower. A deep, circular pit in the mound marks where a cellar was dug out and later collapsed. A wide, shallow ditch crosses the ridge on the south-west side, guarding the only approach. The castle existed for no more than three centuries. It was probably built in the 13th century and gone by the 16th. Written records mention a nearby abandoned village called Dellingen in 1283, 1288 and 1360, but by 1590 only the name Ösch zu Thellingen appears. Archaeologist Hans-Wilhelm Heine studied the site and concluded that both village and fortress had vanished long before then. Visitors walk up a quiet forest path to the ridge. The turf-covered mound and the ditch are the only remains. From the spur the view stretches across the valley of the Lahbach. The silence is broken only by the sound of the two small streams below. No walls or towers stand today, yet the shape of the earthworks still tells the story of a short-lived medieval watchpoint.
