Portal dolmen known as 'The Three Brothers of Grugith'

A prehistoric dolmen stands near St Keverne in Cornwall. It is called the Three Brothers of Grugith and dates from the Neolithic Age. The site overlooks Goonhilly Downs from a hilltop. Two large stones hold up a flat capstone above the chamber. Small depressions on the capstone may be cup marks left by ancient hands. The chamber inside measures about four metres long and two metres wide. It is roughly one metre high, just enough to walk inside. In 1872 William Copeland Borlase dug here and found a pit one metre deep. A single flint flake was the only object recovered from the pit. Visitors reach the dolmen along a path across open moorland. The view stretches over the downs and the surrounding countryside. The stones stand exposed to wind and weather, silent after thousands of years. The site is quiet, with few signs of modern life nearby. It offers a place to stand where Neolithic people once gathered.
