River Tiddy

The River Tiddy is a small river in south-east Cornwall. It rises near Pensilva and flows south-east past the village of Tideford. The river’s name gives the village its meaning: ‘Ford on the River Tiddy’. After passing Tideford the river reaches St Germans, where it meets the Lynher. Downstream of St Germans the two rivers share the name St Germans River. The Tiddy is the main tributary of the Lynher, joining it just after St Germans. St Germans itself is a historic fishing village on the river’s banks. The Quay Sailing Club operates from St Germans Quay, a reminder of the area’s maritime past. The river’s Cornish name, Teudhi, appears on local signs and maps. Visitors find quiet lanes beside the Tiddy’s banks. The river’s gentle flow offers easy walks through farmland and woodland.
