Zwölferkopf

The Zwölferkopf rises 540 metres above Pertisau on the Achensee, a forested summit that divides the Tristenautal from the Perchertal. Its slopes belong to the Karwendel range, where the Rauer Knöll ridges stretch south-east from the main chain. The mountain serves walkers, skiers and paragliders alike, with a lift and marked trails starting from the village below. Walkers reach the top in two to two and a half hours by three signed routes, one through each valley or along the mountain’s flanks. From the summit a network of alpine paths leads to the Bärenbadalm, Weißenbachalm and beyond to the Achenseebahn station at Seespitz. Skiers find four downhill runs and two practice slopes, while the paragliding school offers training flights that glide over the Bärenkopf to land near Pertisau. The view takes in the Achensee’s blue waters, the Inntal to the south and the jagged peaks of the Karwendel. Benches along the ridge give long views toward the Stanser Joch and the Benedictine abbey at St. Georgenberg-Fiecht. In winter the mountain’s lifts carry visitors up to snowy slopes framed by dark spruce woods.
