Erlöserkirche

The Erlöserkirche stands in Jenbach, a town in the Schwaz district of Tirol. It is the main Lutheran parish church for the area and belongs to the Evangelical Superintendentur A. B. Salzburg and Tirol. The church was built in the 1960s after a church construction association was founded in 1958 and the local council provided the land. The architect was Jürgen Heller from Innsbruck, and the project received support from the Gustav-Adolf-Verein. The building has a simple, box-like design with a flat roof that follows the slope of the ground. A tall bell tower with vertical sound slats stands beside the church, and the entrance is marked by a large stone cross made of rough Burgenland serpentinite. Inside, the walls are clad in wash concrete panels, and the ceiling slopes towards the altar, which is lined with wooden boards. The altar wall features mosaic images of the crucified Christ, along with figures of Mary and John beneath the cross. The church was extended in 1969 with the addition of a community centre. The interior space is nearly square in plan, giving it an open and balanced feel. The mosaic work and the use of natural materials create a calm and reflective atmosphere. The church sits on Martin-Luther-Platz, a quiet square in Jenbach, surrounded by residential streets.
