Holland Arms railway station

Holland Arms railway station stands in the village of Pentre Berw on the Isle of Anglesey. It once sat on the Anglesey Central Railway line between Gaerwen and Amlwch. The name comes from the Holland Arms hotel nearby. From 1908 it also served as the junction for the Red Wharf Bay branch line. The station had two platforms, each with its own stone building. The first platform on the west side opened with a wooden building in 1873. This was replaced by a stone structure in 1882. A small goods yard lay just north of this platform. In 1908 a second platform appeared on the east side to handle the new branch line. The branch closed in 1950 and the station itself shut two years later. Today only one platform and its stone building remain. The surviving platform is on the west side of the track. The goods yard site can still be seen beside it. The old station building stands empty but intact. Visitors can walk the old trackbed and imagine the trains that once passed through.
