Kunstgarten Graz

The kunstGarten in Graz is a museum project and cultural initiative founded in 2004. It sits in the fifth district of Graz, Gries, blending natural processes with contemporary art. The non-profit association behind it runs programmes year-round, both outdoors and in its own display garden. Exhibitions, talks, performances, readings and concerts take place regularly. The garden also hosts temporary installations that change with the seasons. The project links art, nature and science through a specialist library of 4,000 garden-related books spanning five centuries. These works cover art, design, ecology and philosophy. The garden itself functions as a living exhibition space for site-specific artworks. Visitors can wander paths lined with sculptures and installations. Seasonal programmes often include literature, music and film events in the open air. The site sits on a quiet street in Gries, surrounded by residential buildings and small gardens. A low wooden fence marks the entrance to the display garden. Inside, gravel paths wind between raised beds and mature trees. Benches offer places to sit and look at the artworks. The library occupies a small room attached to the garden shed. From here, visitors can borrow books or simply enjoy the quiet atmosphere.
