Pfalzbau

The Pfalzbau is a convention centre in Ludwigshafen, Germany. It hosts theatre, concerts, congresses and fairs. The auditorium seats 1,171 people. The original building opened in 1928 but was destroyed in 1944. A temporary concert hall served until a new building was inaugurated in 1968. The venue is worth the journey for its long history and cultural role. It has no permanent theatre company of its own for many years. In 1988, it started its own production company. The company produces operas on 25 nights each year. Performances range from modern to Baroque or Classical works. The Rhineland-Palatinate government funds the company. Visitors find a large auditorium and spaces for congresses and fairs. The building hosts guest performances from touring companies. It also stages operas by its own company. Notable bands such as The Firm have performed there. The surroundings include Ludwigshafen’s urban centre.
