Twyn Cae Huw round barrow

Twyn Cae Huw is a Bronze Age round barrow near Ynysddu in Caerphilly county. It stands as a low grassy mound twenty-five metres wide and two and a half metres high. The barrow was built by people of the Bronze Age for ceremonies or to bury their dead. Cadw keeps the site on its list of protected monuments under number MM033. Almost four hundred such round barrows are recorded in Wales, more than any other type of ancient site. These mounds first appeared around 3000 BC and the custom continued until the end of the Bronze Age about 600 BC. Most were raised between 2400 and 1500 BC. Visitors find a quiet grassy hillock beside farmland and minor roads. There are no fences or barriers, so the barrow can be walked around and examined closely. The surrounding fields stretch away to distant hills under wide skies.
