St. Cäcilia
St. Cäcilia is a three-aisled neo-Gothic Catholic parish church in Düsseldorf-Benrath. It stands beside a side tower added later in the late 19th century. The present building replaced an earlier church whose first record dates from 1005. A stone from that church bears the inscription ‘In the year of our Lord 1005 this choir was built.’ The site has been a place of worship for over a thousand years. The church is worth visiting for its architecture and its music. Wilhelm Sültenfuss designed the neo-Gothic structure, completed in 1903. The organ, built in 1908, was rebuilt in 1976 and again in 2006–2007. It now has 33 stops across three manuals and pedal. Five new bells were installed in 1949 after the previous ones were lost in the two world wars. Inside, the church combines neo-Gothic stonework with a modern organ case. The bells ring the ‘Te Deum’ motif. The side tower from the earlier building remains part of the structure. The parish shares its name with the nearby Herz-Jesu parish, forming a single parish association.
