Pfarrhof Böckstein

The Pfarrhof Böckstein stands in the village of Böckstein, part of the spa town of Bad Gastein in Salzburg. Built in 1742 as a mining manager’s house, it is now a protected historic building. The two-storey structure with its hipped roof sits about 100 metres south-west of the local parish church. It began life as the Bergverwalterhaus for the nearby processing works. In 1766 a vicarage was established here, and when the vicariate became a full parish the building turned into the parish priest’s residence. The ground floor is of solid masonry while the upper storey and attic are timber-framed. A small bell tower that once crowned the roof now belongs to the Colloredohaus Altböckstein. Next to it on the east side stands Schloss Böckstein, a hunting lodge. South-west of the Pfarrhof lies a landscaped park containing a protected cast-iron fountain and an old stone trough once used in gold mining. The building itself shows the simple elegance of 18th-century alpine craftsmanship.
