Svárov

Svárov is a small village in the Zlínský kraj of the Czech Republic. It lies eleven kilometres north of Uherský Brod, surrounded by the Wisowitzer highlands. The village sits in a shallow hollow above the Zlámanecký stream and its tributaries. Three low hills rise nearby: Doubí at 429 metres, Pasecký kopec at 377 metres, and Kopec at 341 metres.
The village has a history that goes back to a fortress built between the 10th and 11th centuries by Jakub Svárlivý. The first written record of the village dates from 1375. During the 15th-century wars between Bohemia and Hungary the fortress and two nearby villages were burned. The settlement lay empty for decades until it was resettled in 1597. In 1647 the estate was joined to the manor at Březolupy. For most of the 17th and 18th centuries the people remained Protestant, but by the mid-18th century Catholicism prevailed.
Today the village has a simple layout with no separate districts. A small pond on the Částkovský stream lies east of the houses. A single bell tower stands near the centre, marking the place where the community gathers. The surrounding hills offer quiet walks and views across the valley.
