Törleskogel

The Törleskogel is a minor summit in the Gschlößkamm range, part of the Venedigergruppe in the Hohe Tauern. It stands at the far eastern edge of the ridge, between the higher Schildkogel to the southwest and the Spitzkogel to the northeast. A narrow col called ’s Törle separates it from the Spitzkogel, while the Wildensee lies below to the northwest. The mountain’s name comes from this col, which locals call ‘the little gate’. Climbers value the Törleskogel for its position on the long Gschlößkamm traverse. The route follows the north-east ridge of the Schildkogel before dropping into the col and climbing again to the Törleskogel’s small summit block. Alpine guides recommend it as a quieter alternative to busier peaks nearby. The view from the top looks across the Venediger peaks and down to the Wildensee. On the summit itself there is little more than a small cairn and space for two or three people to stand. The real reward is the ridge walk itself, with steep drops on either side and patches of alpine flora in summer. The Wildensee below reflects the surrounding summits on calm days. From the col the climb is straightforward, but the exposure on the final section keeps the mountain serious enough to test most walkers.
