Weißach

The Weißach is a river in the Alps that flows through Germany and Austria before joining the Bregenzer Ach. It begins near Immenstadt and travels southwest, then northwest, crossing into Austria near Aach. The upper section is called the Ehrenschwanger Tal after an old hunting lodge in this remote valley. The river is known for the Buchenegger Wasserfälle, where it plunges down waterfalls south of Buchenegg. Its largest tributary is the Bolgenach, which joins between Doren and Krumbach. The Weißach supports fish like brown trout and bullhead, while the lower reaches once held grayling, rainbow trout and Arctic char. Visitors can follow paths along the river, especially near the waterfalls and the Ehrenschwanger Tal. The landscape is shaped by steep slopes and dense forests. A small hydroelectric dam near Krebs creates a lake, and another plant on the Eibelebach adds to the valley’s power supply. The area remains quiet, with few settlements along its banks.
