Church of St Simon Zelotes

The Church of St Simon Zelotes stands in Milner Street, Chelsea, a Grade II* listed building designed by Joseph Peacock. Completed in 1859, it represents Peacock’s most complete surviving work. The church has held its Grade II* listing since 1954. Its Gothic Revival style draws attention with pointed arches and a steeply pitched roof. Inside, the nave features a hammerbeam roof with carved angels along the beams. The east window contains stained glass by William Wailes, installed in the 19th century. Visitors find a quiet sanctuary with a small garden at the front. The building’s simple exterior contrasts with its richly detailed interior. The church remains an active place of worship in a residential neighbourhood.
