Burg Altneuneck
Burg Altneuneck stands on a slope above the Neckar valley near Dettingen, a village that belongs to Horb am Neckar. The site lies at about 480 metres above sea level on the right bank of the river. It was built by the Lords of Dettingen, first mentioned in the 12th century, who served the Counts of Hohenberg and the Counts Palatine of Tübingen. The family sometimes used the surname Lamp. No traces of the old castle remain today. The castle was a typical hillside fortification, positioned to control the river crossing and the surrounding land. The Lords of Dettingen were local officials who carried out military and administrative duties for their overlords. Their power grew during the Middle Ages, but the castle itself vanished long ago. Visitors reach the site by walking up the wooded slope from Dettingen. The hilltop offers wide views over the Neckar valley and towards the Black Forest. A simple stone marks the spot where the castle once stood. The quiet surroundings and the gentle climb make it a peaceful place to stand and imagine the past.
