Pfarrkirche hl. Johannes der Täufer, Stadl an der Mur

The Catholic parish church of St John the Baptist stands on a slope north of the village of Stadl an der Mur in the municipality of Stadl-Predlitz. Its hilltop site gives views over the valley of the Mur. The church and its graveyard are protected as a listed monument. The church dates from 1180 and was rebuilt between 1473 and 1505 in the late-Gothic style. The choir shows the date 1495 on its north wall and 1473 on a southern buttress. A fresco of St Christopher in Renaissance style was uncovered in 1973. The tower has coupled round-headed louvres and a four-sided spire. Inside, the ribbed vaults rest on half-columns with three parallel ribs. The high altar of 1792 holds a painting of the Baptism of Christ by Johann Lederwasch. Statues of Saints Peter and Paul by Johann Reiter flank it. The pulpit around 1700 is carved with acanthus and Evangelist panels. Fourteen josephine Stations of the Cross from the late 18th century were restored in 1973. A Roman inscription stone and the round basin of a late-Gothic font stand on the church square.
