A' Chràlaig

A’ Chràlaig stands in the Northwest Highlands north of Loch Cluanie and south of Glen Affric. It is a Munro, a Scottish mountain over 3 000 feet, with a summit at 1 120 metres. The peak overlooks Glen Shiel and can be climbed from the Cluanie Inn on the A87 road. Its eastern slopes belong to the Forestry Commission and lie inside the Kintail National Scenic Area. The mountain is the highest point along Glen Shiel but shares the ridge with nearby tops. The route over Stob Coire na Cràlaig to Mullach Fraoch-choire is often considered more rewarding than the direct ascent. Together with Sgurr nan Conbhairean and Sail Chaorainn, these peaks form the Cluanie Horseshoe. Walkers combine the summits in one long day, though no single path links A’ Chràlaig to the eastern ridges. The area offers open ground and wide views across the glen and loch. On the summit a broad plateau gives views of Kintail and the Five Sisters of Kintail. The climb follows paths that start near the Cluanie Inn and rise through heather and grass. Lower slopes carry scattered birch and pine while higher ground is open moorland. The ridge walk rewards with changing perspectives of Glen Affric and the distant peaks.
