Schloss Syburg

Schloss Syburg stands on a high plateau in the Weißenburger Alb, part of the Franconian Jura. The building is surrounded by forests and meadows, with a moat and a nearby pond fed by the Erlenbach stream. A small road links the castle to the local road network, while a footpath and cycle route pass nearby.
The castle began as a water fortress in the 11th century and was first recorded in 1470. The Schenken von Geyern family owned it for centuries before the 18th-century conversion into a Rococo residence. The main building dates from the mid-18th century, with an older farmyard from the 16th century and a gate tower from 1759.
Visitors find a three-storey main building with a hipped roof, an Orangerie and a garden pavilion from around 1750. The castle is set within a protected landscape and forms part of a nature park. Nearby stands an 18th-century inn with its own listed outbuilding. The entire estate is recognised as a significant cultural monument.
