Schloss Niederstraubing stands in Niederstraubing, a village within the municipality of Steinkirchen in the Erding district of Upper Bavaria. First mentioned in 849 as ‘Ad Strupingas’, the site later became a medieval and early modern castle. By the mid-17th century it belonged to Regimentsrat Johann Oswald von Pfetten, whose family held the Hofmark until his death in 1679. Around 1780 the estate passed to the Freiherren von Aretin, and in 1793 Carl Albert von Aretin sold it to the Rauscher family. The Rauschers served as the last castle lords and are buried on the grounds. The castle itself was destroyed by fire on Corpus Christi in 1896, leaving only a single surviving outbuilding at Bründlweg 1. This small single-storey structure with a pitched roof dates from the 18th century and once served as a secondary building of the vanished Schloss. The entire site is protected as a medieval and early modern archaeological monument under number D-1-7638-0204. For centuries it formed part of the Hofmark’s lower jurisdiction, including a patrimonial court of the second class that operated until the revolutions of 1848. Visitors today find quiet farmland and the remains of the old estate. The surviving outbuilding at Bründlweg 1 still stands beside a country lane, its simple form recalling the vanished castle. The surrounding fields stretch toward the village church, and the gentle slope where the main building once rose is now marked only by low earthworks. A walk along the Bründlweg offers a view of the small roofed building and the open landscape that once framed the castle’s courtyards and gardens.
