The Bahnhof Mönichkirchen stands in Mitteregg, a hamlet beneath the village of Mönichkirchen in the Aspangberg-St. Peter municipality. It belongs to the Wechselbahn, a branch line that climbs through the Wechsel massif. The single-storey building, designed in late-Historicist style, was finished in 1910 as part of the k.k. Staatsbahnen standard programme.

The station once handled passenger and freight traffic on the Wechselbahn until it closed in 1996. During the Second World War it briefly served a different purpose: from 12 to 25 April 1941 the building and the nearby Großer Hartberg tunnel were used as Führerhauptquartier ‘Frühlingssturm’. The structure is now listed for its architectural and historical value.

Visitors approach the quiet halt along a forest track that leads down from Mönichkirchen village. The cream-and-green station house still shows its original timber brackets and red-tiled roof. Inside, the ticket office and waiting room remain largely unchanged since the early 20th century. A pair of standard-gauge tracks, now overgrown with grass, curve past the platform. Beyond the site, the Wechsel range rises steeply, offering clear views of the Schneeberg massif on clear days.
