Kirche Techendorf

The Evangelical Church in Techendorf stands in the village of the same name, part of the municipality of Weißensee in Carinthia. It is a branch church of the parish in nearby Weißbriach, set among the green hills that surround the lake. The building follows the neogothic style, with a tall western tower rising above the main entrance. Inside, a four-bay nave leads to a single-bay choir ending in three sides of an octagon. A star-ribbed vault covers the entire interior, giving the space a light and airy feel. The church dates from 1900 to 1903, when Giovanni Colombo designed it after the model of the mother church in Weißbriach. The altar and pulpit were carved in 1904 by Carl Zundler, whose work shows delicate tracery above the side panels. The altar painting depicts the risen Christ, while the stained-glass windows in the sanctuary, added in 1991 by Erika Wolf-Rubenser, illustrate scenes from the life of Jesus. The organ, built in 1903 by the Rieger firm, still plays on pneumatic action and a single manual. Visitors enter through the western tower and step into a quiet, vaulted nave. The altar and pulpit stand at the far end, framed by the choir’s stained glass. The small bell, the only one left from the pre-war set, hangs in the tower alongside two later additions. The churchyard and surrounding hills offer peaceful walks, while the interior keeps the memory of the first service held in 1782 by Pastor Johann Gottfried Gotthard.
