Real World Studios
Real World Studios stands in Box, a Wiltshire village near Bath, on the site of an old water mill by the By Brook. Peter Gabriel founded the complex in 1987 after buying the 13-acre mill site. The converted buildings include Box Mill, a 200-year-old structure once used as offices. A new building called The Big Room was added to the complex. The studios share space with Real World Records, Real World Publishing and the WOMAD Festival offices. The studios are known for their collaborative design where musicians, engineers and producers work together. The Big Room has a 72-channel mixing console and large windows overlooking the millpond and gardens. The Wood Room offers a lively acoustic with movable screens and a mezzanine floor. The Red Room handles post-production for film and television. Gabriel’s private Writing Room and Workroom are also part of the complex. Visitors find a mix of recording spaces and creative rooms set among gardens and water features. The Big Room doubles as a Dolby Surround 7.1 film mixing room. The Rehearsal Room measures 49 by 16 feet for band practice. Clients range from A-ha and Beyoncé to Mumford & Sons and The 1975. Film projects such as Quantum of Solace and The Golden Compass have been mixed here.
