Pfarrkirche hl. Margaretha in Horitschon

The parish church of Horitschon stands in the village centre of Horitschon, a small community in the Oberpullendorf district of Burgenland. It is dedicated to Saint Margaret and belongs to the Deutschkreutz deanery. The building is protected as a listed monument. The church replaced an earlier Baroque structure that burned down in 1945. Between 1947 and 1949 a new church was built in the village centre to plans by Johann Petermair. The interior is modern, yet it preserves a 18th-century altarpiece rescued from the old church. The painting shows Saint Margaret and dates from the second half of the 1700s. In 1979 the picture was restored. The organ was installed in 1990 by Rieger Orgelbau and has fourteen stops on two manuals. A bell cast in 1796 by Johann Georg Köchel in Ödenburg still hangs in the tower. The church’s calm setting in the village square offers a quiet place for reflection.
