Ochsenkogel
The Ochsenkogel rises to 1 458 metres on the northern flank of the Gleinalpe in the Austrian province of Styria. It stands about seven kilometres south of Leoben and the same distance south-east of Sankt Michael in Obersteiermark, marking the border between the two parishes. The mountain forms a lower spur of the Karneralpe and stretches its ridge north-westward toward the Schinninger at 974 metres. Plans in the mid-2000s envisaged a wind farm of seven turbines, each rated at 2 MW and standing 118 metres tall. The project received all necessary approvals but was later abandoned for economic reasons. The 2013 Styrian wind-energy plan lists the area neither as a priority zone nor as an explicit exclusion zone. A broad forest track climbs from Hinterberg up the eastern side of the Ochsenkogel. From the summit ridge there are wide views across the Murtal toward the Hochschwab massif and the Eisenerzer Alpen. The Lochitzbach stream rises on the south-western slopes near Sankt Michael.
