Burg Rieden

Burg Rieden stands in the village of Rieden, now part of Rosengarten in Schwäbisch Hall district. The site was once home to a small castle built by the Senft von Sulburg family in the late 15th century. Records first mention it in 1490, when it belonged to this local knightly line.

The castle passed to Rudolf Christoph Senft in 1572, a member of the Senft von Sulburg clan. This family formed part of the old Haller city nobility, one of the original clans of Schwäbisch Hall. In 1618 the town of Hall bought the small castle and used it for various purposes.

A storm in 1786 damaged the building, but it was repaired and remained standing. Today the former castle site holds the parish house of Rieden’s Protestant congregation. The old walls still form part of the structure, linking the present building to its medieval past.
