Frohnleitner Pfarrkirche
The parish church of Frohnleiten stands at the western end of the town’s main square in the Steiermark region. It shares the square with the old Katharinenkirche, marking the western boundary of the settlement. The church’s history begins in the 17th century when it was built as the monastery church for the Servite order. The church is worth visiting for its well-preserved artworks and architectural details. The interior features a three-bay nave with a two-bay choir, both covered by a ribbed vault in the Rococo style. The walls are adorned with decorative paintings and pilasters crowned by strong Gesims capitals. The main altar shows the Assumption of Mary, painted by Joseph Adam Ritter von Mölk and his pupil Josef Strickner in 1764. Inside, visitors find a pair of Rococo balconies with ornate railings supported by two columns. Two pulpits face each other, one dedicated to Saint John of Nepomuk, both dating from around 1764. The altars, confessionals, and stalls reflect the Biedermeier period, while the organ in its historic casing was built in 1994. The exterior lacks a tower, replaced by a gable facade with volutes and niches holding statues of Servite saints.
