Hofkirchen airfield
The airfield at Hofkirchen sits in the rolling farmland of Upper Austria’s Traunkreis region. It lies between the small villages of Krottenthal, Kiebach and Ruprechtshofen, 358 metres above sea level. Opened in 1977, the grass strip was built for HB-Flugtechnik to test and deliver its aircraft. Though mainly a private works airfield, pilots may land by prior permission. Two separate circuit patterns keep factory test flights apart from visiting traffic. HB-Flugtechnik’s own school runs regular courses for private pilot, ultralight and glider licences. At weekends the HB-Fanclub keeps the airfield alive with sightseeing flights and joyrides. A 520-metre asphalt runway runs east–west, numbered 08/26. North of the strip stands the apron, hangars and control tower at the eastern threshold. Inside the hangars the firm’s maintenance workshops keep the fleet airworthy. Beside the flight line sits the HB-Café, where pilots and visitors share stories over coffee. The café’s large windows overlook the apron and runway, offering a clear view of take-offs and landings. A small grass area behind the hangars serves as a picnic spot on calm days. Visitors can watch aircraft being prepared or simply enjoy the wide sky above Upper Austria.
