Burg Gomadingen

The Burg Gomadingen stands on a rocky outcrop above the village of Gomadingen in the Reutlingen district. Built in the early 12th century by the local lords, it appears in records from 1200 as the home of a family called de Gumedingen. By the late 13th century the fortress had fallen into ruin and was no longer inhabited. Only faint traces of the small medieval stronghold remain today. A modern private house now occupies the summit where the keep once rose. The site offers little to see beyond a sense of where walls once stood. Visitors walk up the gentle slope to the Burgfelsen and look across the valley. The quiet lanes of Gomadingen lead back to the church and the surrounding farmland. The vanished fortress is best appreciated for its vanished past rather than any standing remains.
