Moselbad Koblenz

The Moselbad in Koblenz is a modern indoor swimming pool opened in 2024 on the banks of the Mosel river. It replaced the old city baths demolished in 2015 and is one of about 300 public pools in Rheinland-Pfalz. The project started in 2016 and took five years to complete, costing around €48 million. Most of the funding came from the Koblenz municipal utilities and their subsidiaries. The city and regional government also contributed, especially for the land and outdoor areas. Inside there are seven pools in total. The course pool has a movable floor that adjusts from 1.34 metres deep and stays at 32 °C. The children’s pool is the same temperature and only 5 to 45 centimetres deep, with a slide, spray features and water cannons. The 25-metre sports pool has seven lanes at 28 °C and 1.85 metres depth. Divers use a 5-metre tower and 1- and 3-metre boards above a pool that can reach four metres deep. The teaching pool is 32 °C with seats and depths between 0.75 and 1.35 metres. Outside there is a lawn, sandpit, beach volleyball and table tennis. The sauna area has four indoor and two outdoor cabins. The Finnish sauna reaches 100 °C and the Weinkabinett sauna stays around 60 °C. Other cabins include a kelosauna, a red-wine sauna and a Russian banya, plus a steam room at 40–50 °C. Rest rooms are on the ground and first floors, and outside there is a foot pool, whirlpool and an outdoor basin. The building also runs two cafés, one by the pools and one by the saunas. Energy comes from 30 geothermal boreholes, solar panels and a green roof. Rainwater is collected for irrigation and melted snow is drained to keep paths clear.
