The Lupburg castle ruin stands on a hill in the market town of Lupburg in the Upper Palatinate. Built in the early 12th century by the Lupburg noble family, it was first recorded in 1142. The site includes medieval walls and later buildings from the 16th and 17th centuries.

The castle passed through many hands, from the Hochstift Regensburg to the Dukes of Bavaria-Landshut and finally to the Parsberg family. In 1572 it was redeemed by Pfalz-Neuburg and used as an administrative centre. After 1803 it was sold into private ownership and fell into disrepair before being restored in the 20th century.

Visitors find a well-preserved outer wall, a residential building in the south, the lower part of the great hall in the west and a large barn in the north. The upper section contains the remains of the keep on a rock. The market town now uses part of the site.
