Bergedorf is a quarter in the south-eastern part of Hamburg, on the banks of the Bille river. First mentioned in 1162, it remains the old town centre with its own town hall. The area covers 11.3 square kilometres and borders several other Hamburg quarters and a district in Schleswig-Holstein.

Bergedorf has produced notable figures such as the composer Johann Adolph Hasse and the optician Bernhard Schmidt. The quarter is home to eight elementary schools, five secondary schools, and 112 private doctors. It also holds records, including the world’s longest name once held by Wolfe+585, Senior.

Visitors find a quiet riverside town with tree-lined streets and a historic town hall. The Bille river runs through the area, and the quarter retains a village-like atmosphere despite being part of Hamburg. Local shops and cafés line the streets, offering a relaxed pace of life.
