Prayner Conservatory of Music and Dramatic Arts in Vienna

The Prayner Conservatory of Music and Dramatic Arts stands in Vienna’s sixth district, near the Mariahilferstrasse. Two buildings house the school, one on Mühlgasse and the other on Mariahilferstrasse, both recognised for their historic facades. Founded in 1905, it became one of the city’s most established conservatories. The conservatory offers programmes from undergraduate to postgraduate levels, alongside adult education and pre-college courses. Students choose from voice or instrumental lessons, and can join the orchestra or choir. The conservatory prepares students for an Austrian ‘Artistic Diploma’ in fields licensed by the authorities. These include piano, singing, strings, woodwind, brass, percussion, guitar, harp, accordion, composition, conducting and opera. Over a hundred teachers work at the conservatory, including Maksimiljan Cencic, Galina Mauracher, Dr Massimo Stefanizzi and Dr Giorgi Latso. Other faculty members are Mag Josef Stolz, Valbona Naku, Filimon Ginalis, Barbara Górzyńska and Alexandra Karastoyanova-Hermentin. Inside the buildings, students find practice rooms, rehearsal spaces and performance venues. The conservatory’s centre includes the Ehrbarsaal, a hall used for concerts and recitals. The area around the school is lively, with cafés and shops along Mariahilferstrasse. The city’s cultural sites are within walking distance, making the conservatory a practical base for musicians.
