Evang Pfarrkirche

The Evangelical Lutheran parish church in Deutsch Jahrndorf stands in the village centre of Deutsch Jahrndorf in Burgenland. It belongs to the Burgenland superintendency and is the easternmost sacred building in Austria and the German-speaking world.
The church was begun in 1837 and consecrated the following year. Gottfried Brendel of Pressburg designed and built it. Inside, a five-bay nave is covered by a barrel vault. The pulpit altar dates from the time of construction and features a wrought-iron screen made in 1795. A single-manual organ with eleven stops, built by Carl Hesse in 1854, stands at the rear.
The exterior shows a plain façade with pilasters framing tall, narrow windows. On the east tower a stone inscription records the year 1838. The churchyard contains mature lime trees and a simple stone cross. Visitors find a quiet, whitewashed interior with clear classical proportions and a single aisle leading to the altar.
