Reformations-Gedächtnis-Kirche

The Reformations-Gedächtnis-Kirche stands in Munderfing, a village in Upper Austria’s Inn valley. It belongs to the Evangelical Church and forms part of a parish that also includes the nearby Friedenskirche in Mattighofen and Glaubenskirche in Lengau. Together these three churches serve the scattered Protestant communities across the region under the Evangelical Superintendentur A. B. Upper Austria. It was built after the Second World War to house the growing number of Protestant refugees who settled in the area. For a time the congregation met in the local Catholic parish church while plans were made for a permanent building. Designed by Salzburg architect Franz Windhager, the simple rectangular church has a tall tower capped by a pointed spire and was completed in 1970. Inside, visitors find a quiet worship space with plain white walls and wooden pews. The tower houses two bells: the older one, cast in 1922 by Ulrich & Weule, came from a church in Württemberg and was installed when the building opened. A second bell, made by Grassmayr of Innsbruck, was added in 1979. The churchyard and surrounding farmland give the place a peaceful, rural atmosphere.
