Lesnica vára
Lesnica vára was a ruined medieval fortress in Croatia, near Cage village east of the Okucsány–Pakrac main road. It stood on a 267-metre hill in the Psunj mountains. The site is now part of the landscape around Cage, close to the border with Slovenia. The fortress first appears in a 1210 charter by King Andrew II confirming Templar ownership of lands along the Lesnica stream. After the Templars were dissolved in 1312, the Knights Hospitaller took control. Later documents from 1495 and 1507 call the place ‘Lesnahegh’, showing how its name changed over time. Today the earthworks still mark a 140-metre-long, 50-metre-wide plateau split by two ditches into three parts. The central oval area holds the remains of a rectangular building 24 by 12 metres. Close by are traces of a dividing wall and, to the west, two shallow semicircular hollows that may once have held storehouses or stables. No full archaeological excavation has yet taken place.
