Càrn Mòr

Càrn Mòr is a mountain on the edge of the Rough Bounds of Knoydart in the Northwest Highlands. It stands about 26 kilometres from Fort William in the Glen Dessary area. The mountain reaches 829 metres and is classified as a Corbett. Its prominence of 613 metres also makes it a Marilyn. The slopes on the eastern side are moderate, becoming steep in places but mostly free of crags. The western side of Càrn Mòr is steep and craggy, more typical of the Rough Bounds. It can be climbed from Strathan in the east via the east ridge. This route avoids the difficult terrain found on the western side. The contrast between the gentler eastern slopes and the rugged western face adds to the mountain’s appeal. A visitor finds a mountain with moderate eastern slopes and steep, craggy western cliffs. The east ridge offers a manageable ascent from Strathan. The surrounding Rough Bounds of Knoydart provide dramatic scenery. Views from the summit stretch across the Northwest Highlands. The contrast between the two sides of the mountain makes it a distinctive climb.
