Orenberg

The Orenberg rises 702 metres above sea level near Willingen in northern Hesse. It stands in the Upland, the north-eastern spur of the Rothaargebirge range. The hill sits east of the Itter valley and west of the Aarbach stream, with the Eideler Berg just across the water. The Orenberg is known for its ski jumps at the north-west foot above the Itter valley. The first hill was built in 1937 and today serves young jumpers as training slopes. Smaller Mattenschanzen allow summer training on plastic. Two kilometres south, the Mühlenkopfschanze hosts international events. Visitors reach the slopes through Willingen village. The Willinger Viadukt, built between 1914 and 1917, arches over the valley nearby. From the top of the Orenberg the Rothaargebirge stretches away to the south and west.
