Krems

The Krems is a 62-kilometre river in Upper Austria. It rises near the Kremsmauer mountain in Micheldorf and flows north through the Upper Austrian Prealps. The river passes through several towns before joining the Traun at Ebelsberg in Linz. Its valley includes Kirchdorf an der Krems, Schlierbach, Wartberg an der Krems and Kremsmünster. Other settlements along its course are Rohr im Kremstal, Kematen an der Krems, Neuhofen an der Krems and Ansfelden. The Krems has shaped the region’s history and landscape for centuries. Its name appears in records from the 8th century, showing early settlements along its banks. The river once powered mills and drove industry in the valley.
