Lehr- und Forschungsgut Kremesberg
The Lehr- und Forschungsgut Kremesberg stands in Kremesberg, a hamlet within the market town of Pottenstein in Baden district, Lower Austria. It sits directly on the boundary between Pottenstein and the town of Berndorf. The site centres on a historic cattle barn built for the estate of the University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna. The cattle barn was constructed in 1908 to house 252 head of cattle. The long, low building was designed by the master builder Oscar Fraunlob and completed in 1907 for the estate’s administration. Its architecture mixes solid masonry at ground level with half-timbered upper walls and segment-arch windows framed in red brick. A three-part roof with overhanging eaves shelters the central and side projections. Today the former cattle barn forms part of the university’s research farm. The eastern section serves as the administration building, distinguished by a four-bay gable front. The farm occupies open land on the edge of the Wienerwald, offering quiet walks along farm tracks and views across the valley towards Berndorf.
