Neuer Pfarrhof Eggenburg

The Neuer Pfarrhof stands in Eggenburg, a town in Lower Austria. Built in 1537 by Gregor Rauber von Plankenstein, it is a three-storey Renaissance building topped by a tall curved gable. The city took ownership in the 18th century and has served as the parish house since 1792. It is protected as a historic monument. The façade shows irregularly arranged windows with stone surrounds, twisted bases, hollowed sills and straight, ribbed lintels from the early 16th century. Gable windows are profiled, and on the upper floor a round niche holds an 18th-century figure of the Good Shepherd. The arched wooden door is flanked by pilasters with a carved head above, and the door frame is decorated with panels and rosettes. Above it runs an entablature with a leaf scroll frieze and dolphins. Inside, rooms have ribbed and barrel vaults, and a late-Gothic spiral stair rises in a semi-circular turret with diamond-shaped windows. The upper hall has net-ribbed barrel vaults and a doorway bearing the Rauber coat of arms dated 1537. Some original brick floors remain. Over a high cellar with a chamfered arched portal and stone-mullioned windows, a courtyard wing was added in the 16th to 17th centuries. A second two-storey storehouse has a barrel-vaulted cellar and cross-ribbed rooms.
